Rotting Corpse

Arlington · Formed 1985

Rotting Corpse was an influential thrash and speed metal band formed in Arlington, Texas, in 1985 by guitarists Walter "Walt" Trachsler and John Perez, alongside vocalist Jim "Moe" Mulqueen. Aiming to disrupt the region's glam-heavy scene with aggressive, shock-value speed metal, the group quickly became a cornerstone of the 1980s North Texas underground alongside acts like Rigor Mortis and Gammacide. Through underground tape trading and high-energy live shows, they gained cult status via early releases like their 1986 self-titled demo and 1987's Fuck It – It's Only Thrash. Though they never dropped a major-label full-length in their prime, the band served as a critical launchpad for key extreme metal figures: Perez went on to found epic doom pioneers Solitude Aeturnus, while Trachsler toured with death metal titans Death. Rotting Corpse's raw catalog remains a celebrated touchstone of 1980s Texas thrash history.
